If you read articles from past "great" lifters, bodybuilders, strongmen, etc.... That is good because there is a lot of general advice to be learned from these folks. However, be careful not to follow the advice too closely.
One tends to fall into the trap of "hey if it worked for them, it will work for me..." BULLSHIT BULLSHIT BULLSHIT wipe that silly ass idea out of your brain just like you'd wipe your ass.
Here's the deal. The greats were blessed with great genetics, chances are, you were not. So to do the volume and frequency of what they did, puts you behind the 8-ball from the start.
Taking their training advice verbatim is akin to getting tips from a 7 footer on how to be tall. Clearly that would be idiotic and you would recognize that. Strength and muscle tips from phenoms is as idiotic. Understand that or you will set yourself up for a lot of failure.
Here is a fact pre 1950 (I chose that year because steroids and peds were barley getting off the ground) Mr. America's all had wrist sizes of 7.5 or more inches, with many going 8 inches or larger.
Why?
Well, because the bigger your bones are the more muscle you can add to your frame. Someone with 6.5 inch wrists might get really good at some sport, but bodybuilding, powerlifting or strongman won't be the one.
Sadly for you... You have been conditioned that if you just "want" something badly enough and work "hard" enough you will get it.
That works with education and little else in life. No matter how much you lift, Brock Lesnar is going to toss you around like a rag doll. Plain and simple. Yet here you are thinking "I will learn from [insert name of lifting great here].
What utter bullshit, the audacity, the unmitigated gall. (Love the Grinch). He not only stole Christmas he'll steal your bullshit hopes and dreams as it pertains to your poor ass genetics.
99% of you are better off playing pick up sticks with your but cheeks than thinking you will be bigger than Larry Wheels or stronger than Eddie Hall. You simply weren't dealt those cards geneticially.
I'd end on a more positive note and give you some constructive advice, but I don't see the point. You are stubborn enough to tough out running your head into the brick wall.
Good luck, you'll need it!
